We were always very zealous about wine, we even had Dionysus, a god dedicated to it.
Welcome to a different type of cycling experience. Ask yourself? Did you think that Athens was all about philosophy? Sure, the Greeks always loved to philosophise but also to drink wine.
Today Greek wine is so much more than the famous retsina in the 60’s and 70’s. Things started changing in the 80s. Young oenologists started investing on Greek indigenous varietals (more than 300).
Single varietal or blended, some of the indigenous grape varietals proved to be generous in giving wines that took the world by surprise. Join us in this inspiring tour to enjoy great Greek wines by yourself.
Good to know
- You’ll love discovering the Greek and Attika wine varieties
- Wine likes to pair with food and we definitely took good care about it!
- You can order the wine you like to take at your hotel or at home.
- Vines have been cultivated, and wine has been produced, continuously in Greece for longer than in any other area of the world.
What to expect
Greek White Varietals
We start our journey through greek wine history with the ancient variety Malagouzia that was lost for 400 years and has been re-cultivated in the recent years.
Our first stop is at a trendy wine bar with a fine new greek wines cellar.
Greek Red Varietals
The most commonly found red indigenous variety is Agiorgitiko with its fruity, easy to drink red wines.
Along the wine tastings, a distinguished Greek sommelier will present us exciting story of some indigenous red varietals.
Libation to Dionysos
Retsina. It is the oldest wine production method in the area of Attica and it used to be the favourite wine at the feast table with friends and family.
The time we all wait, finally we are at the tavern ready to enjoy greek food and Dionysous favourite retsina.
A Sip for Goodbye
We conclude this tour with a long tradition of greeks to have a farewell glass of famous Greek dessert wine. Even better we paired it with a traditional delicacy.
