Welcome to Athens! Once you arrive at the Athens International Airport you have the option to use the metro or the train that gets you downtown in 40 – 45 minutes. There is a very good connection and the price of the ticket costs less than 10€. Alternatively you can find taxis outside the arrival halls.
There is a very useful service that gets you from and takes you back to the airport called Welcome Pick Ups. A friendly driver, a passionate local welcomes and takes you to your destination, at a very affordable price. This way, you have a new friend to get you acquainted with the city and a safe ride.
The locals like to also use “Beat” a very successful app that allows you to call a cab and select your driver within minutes, or seconds. You can also review your driver and watch the whole itinerary, so it feels safer.
The public transportation network offers a wide variety of routes within the city, from south to north. Metro, railway, buses, trolleys and trams allow you to go from one neighbourhood to the other, from the city center to the Athenian Riviera.
Piraeus is the biggest port of the city and this is where you most probably take your boat to the almost every Greek island. You can reach the port by train and buses, as well as private transfer.
Of course you can get a bike to go around your neighbourhood, or drive in designated areas. In general, Athens is not like Copenhagen or Amsterdam when it comes to roads for bicycles, so make sure you stay safe.
As far as sightseeing is concerned, rent an e-bike and a knowledgeable guide will accompany you, share insights and make sure you remain safe throughout an unforgettable ride around Athens!
